Obituary

Brestovansky; Alojz
(June 16, 1934 - April 12, 2021)
Alojz Brestovansky was born to Alojz Brestovansky and Margita Brestovanska nee Horvathova in the city of Trnava. He joins his wife Marta and son Marek Brestovansky in heaven now.   He wasn’t great at school, but he was great at soccer,  the only reason he passed his grades. He also was a bit of a troublemaker…. Enough to send him to the Don Bosco school for bad boys. He wasn’t a saint there either but considered entering the clergy, lucky for his wife and daughter, he didn’t follow through instead embarking on an Operatic career. He met his wife, whom he called “pimple face” at the Arts school in Bratislava. He considered himself her bodyguard, and when the time came he went to her to save her from an unwanted arranged marriage. When the USSR came into Czechoslovakia, Alojz and his wife decided to flee. They ended up in Canada of which they knew nothing, except…..Sunshine Sketches of A Small Town by Stephen Leacock that had been translated. So naturally Orillia was their destination and home. Alojz worked as an electrician, but he moonlighted as a jazz musician, with Marta singing and him playing the keyboards with the band. After his wife passed he enjoyed playing in the jazz trio “Men In Black” around town and the outlying areas.  His love of music, art, soccer, ping pong, Ginger Ale, and a good sandwich kept him going in good spirits. Because of his beard and belly, many who knew him, and many who didn’t, called him Santa Claus, and so he was. He would like you to remember him with the smile and laughter he most often provided.   He leaves behind a daughter who loves him very much.  A Private Family Mass will be held at the Church of the Guardian Angels, 115 West St., N., Orillia.   Interment; St. Michael's Cemetery, Orillia.  If desired, memorial donations to the Charity of Ones Choice would be appreciated.  Arrangements entrusted to the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St., N., Orillia.
