John James “Jim” Simpson Former Owner of Simpson's Bicycle and Sports Ltd. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John James “Jim” Simpson on October 18, 2026, in his 84th year, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Jim passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family, on a particularly meaningful day-the date that would have marked his 65th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, the late Sandra Lynn “Sandy” Simpson. Jim was a loving father to Catherine Simpson, Janet Fazackerley (Richard Chamberland), Patricia Chamberland (Mark), Jeff Simpson (Laura Howard), and Dennis Simpson. He was a proud grandfather of 7: Jason, Chris (Shelley), Sarah (Jessica), Amy (Ryley), Jamie (Chris), Olivia (Tyler), and Natanya (Joe). Jim was also a cherished great-grandfather to 13: Makayla (Tanner), Todd(Dannie), Amber (Rielly), Chloe (Cody), Max( Dan),Jimmy (Ashley), Abby (Alex), Ryder, Valerie, Emmett, Zoey, Charlotte, and Wesley; and a great-great-grandfather to 4: Isabella, Haevyn, Mason, and Bennett. He was a beloved uncle to Kelly Simpson-Walters (Josh). Jim was predeceased by his loving wife, Sandy; his father, Robert John “Jack” Simpson; his mother, Elsie “Jean” Kathleen Simpson; and his brother, Jay “Harvey” Simpson. Born and raised in Orillia, Jim was a familiar face in the community for many years. Following his father's retirement, Jim took over the family business, Simpson's Bicycle and Sports Ltd. Through the years, he built lasting connections with generations of local families, whether helping a child choose their first bicycle or finding the perfect pair of skates. His dedication to the business and the people he served left a lasting impression on the Orillia community. When the business closed in 1996, Jim and Sandy embraced a new chapter in their lives, taking up farming together. Jim found great joy in caring for the animals, working with his hands, and spending his days outdoors. The farm also became a special place for his grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored. Nothing made Jim happier than having the grandkids around, sharing his love of the animals and the outdoors, and, of course, finding every opportunity to spoil them. Those days on the farm created countless cherished memories that his grandchildren will carry with them forever.
At the heart of Jim's life was his beloved wife, Sandy. He adored her, and together they shared a lifetime of love, family, and adventures. Whether working side by side on the farm or enjoying life's quieter moments, Sandy was his constant companion and the love of his life. Eventually, Jim and Sandy sold the farm and settled into a quaint little home in Port McNicoll, where they enjoyed a slower pace of life and more time for the things they loved. Whether camping, boating, fishing, or simply enjoying the fresh air by the pool, Jim was happiest when he was outdoors. Above all, Jim will be remembered for his devotion to Sandy, his love for his family, and the special bond he shared with his grandchildren. His greatest joys were often found in life's simplest moments, surrounded by the people he loved most. He leaves behind a lifetime of treasured memories and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. Funeral Arrangements Arrangements have been entrusted to Mundell Funeral Home in Orillia. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to join in laying Jim to rest at St. Andrew's-St. James' Cemetery, 320 Coldwater Road West, Orillia, on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately after the interment at Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia.
