It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John Richard Deavitt on October 21, 2026, at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia, at the age of 79.

John was the beloved husband of Lidy Ann (née Cleaveley) and a proud father to John, who brought him great pride and joy. He was the cherished son of the late Gordon and Ina Deavitt; dear brother of Grace (Harold), Ruth (Jeff), Dale (Jerry, predeceased), Patsy (James, both predeceased), Jim (predeceased), and George (Wendy). He will be dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends, all of whom were fortunate to know him.

A skilled arborist by trade, John had an appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed staying active throughout his life. He found pleasure in sports, particularly hockey, golf, and skiing, and cherished the simple joys of spending time outside. Above all, John was known for his kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand. He was a thoughtful and generous man who was always ready to help those around him.

John will be remembered for his kind heart, his helpful nature, and the love he shared with his family and friends. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories made with him will be treasured always.
