Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Norine Jane (Bagley) Johnston who passed away peacefully at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital on Saturday, October 24th, 2026. Shirley was the beloved wife for over 50 years to the late Ronald Charles Johnston (2004). She was the much-loved mother of Karen (Bob) Glass; Teri (Dave) Annesley; and Brad (Carol-Anne) Johnston. Cherished Nana of Jeff (Jen) and Amy Glass; Kyle Annesley and Kara (Braedon) Snyder; and Riley (Michael) and Randi (Dylan) Johnston. Loving Great Nana to Tyler and Victoria Glass. Shirley was born in Orillia, Ontario on December 30th, 1929, to Bertha (Gibson) and Perc Bagley. She is predeceased by her brothers Don and his wife Shirley Bagley and Gary and his wife Lynne Webb.

Mom was tenacious and determined and loved to keep busy. She was an avid curler and golfer… and even got a hole in one!!! Shirley was a long-time member and volunteer of the Orillia Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star and belonged to two Probus Clubs. Mom enjoyed playing games including bridge and bid euchre. She also enjoyed volunteering and helping others. Mom was a talented seamstress and artist as well as a great cook and baker who hosted many memorable dinners for family and friends.

Our family would like to express our thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff at the Sundial Lakeview Retirement Residence for their care and support. Mom especially loved the word game, and we are grateful for the people who assisted her in playing after her eyesight had failed. Our Special thanks to Marlene Borelli from Bayshore. Mom was so grateful for your care and spoke very highly of you. Our gratitude and thanks to Dr. Sochaniwsky and to the compassionate staff at OSMH who cared for Mom in her final days.

A celebration of life for Shirley Johnston will be announced and held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations to the Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital would be appreciated.  Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.mundellfuneralhome.com
