With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Glen Stewart on October 25, 2026, at home. Beloved husband to his wife, Heather. Loving and devoted father to Tim (Jodi) Stewart, Rob (Mandy) Stewart, Shawn Smith (Tanya Skrlec), Robin Smith, Ryan (Rumbi) Smith. Proud grandfather to Renna, Mackenzie, Ava, Riley, Aiden, Emma, Mikalah, Cameron, Logan, and Regan. Dear brother Diana Stewart (Don Wah), Ken (Brenda) Stewart, Greg (Annette) Stewart, and John (Michele) Stewart.
Glen was born in Barrie in January of 1948 to Russell and Amy Stewart. They were very blessed to have had Glen, along with two other children, Diana & Ken. Life and work for the Stewarts way back then was a challenge. Due to both of his determined and stubborn parents, R. H Stewart Contruc. Co. LTD was founded in 1948. Glen started working for the family company while still in high school during the summer holidays. When he got older, he purchased equipment and local gravel pits from his father in 1983, while his brothers, Ken and John, created construction businesses of their own thanks to their father, Russ.
Skipping ahead to the fall of 1995, Glen’s company G. H. Stewart Constc. Inc. was awarded the contract to start work to create what we now know as Casino Rama. Glen, Cathy Reilly, and Neil Bell worked around the clock to complete our contract at Casino Rama, along with many other workers and companies eventually opening in 1996. Most of his sons were involved with G. H. Stewart Constc. Inc. in the early days, and with Glen’s support & guidance, Glen’s son Robert, founded Stewart Carriers Limited. In December 2016, Glen sold all of his gravel pits and most of his equipment to Walker Aggregates and Duivenvoorden Haulage LTD. Glen kept the original yard at 4156 Stewarts Lane, Severn, from which he operated Stewart Aggregate Depot, which is and will continue to operate.
Through Glen’s work ethic, attention to detail, and leadership, his company developed an excellent reputation in the area, and he was well respected by all. Glen loved his family very much and felt it was his job to help others his entire life by always keeping positive by saying, “Just another day in paradise", "any better and we couldn’t handle it!", "All good things!”
Glen’s wishes were not to have a funeral. He saw people in all walks of life while he was here with us. His passing was sudden and his request was to have a private, immediate family gathering which has taken place, followed by cremation. Our family has yet to discuss a celebration of life for 2027, further details to come. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia. Memorial donations may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation or Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.mundellfuneralhome.com
Glen sure was…"one of a kind" "too good to be true"
“It’s never that bad; it couldn’t be worse - it’s never that good; it couldn’t be better.”
“Take good care”
