Wayne Cox

June 23, 1942—March 8, 2024

COX, John WAYNE Duncan passed peacefully and painlessly to his Saviour, Jesus Christ, with his wife Mae and his dog Leesha by his side, at Mariposa House Hospice in the evening of Thursday, March 7, 2024, while his favourite choral group, Voces 8, was singing “Goin’ Home”.

Wayne was in his 82nd year; he and Mae had been married almost 55 years. Beloved son of the late Jack and Violette Cox, besides Mae, Wayne leaves his dearly loved children, Stephen John Wayne (Orillia) and Jodi Mae Michelle(Victoria, BC).

Although he enjoyed being a Pharmacist (right up until the end of November, 2023), his greatest loves were his God, his family, his Church, gardening and singing in choirs. After 35 years with Cellar Singers and then many years with the Orillia Vocal Ensemble, his greatest pride was to have been in St. James’ Church Choirs for 70 years, for which Wayne was honoured in the fall of 2023. His last Sunday in the St. James’ Choir was February 4, 2024. Wayne belonged to and volunteered for many different organizations, as well as St. James’, but the one thing most people agreed on, wherever they met him, was that he was KIND, whoever you were and whatever the circumstances. If you remember Wayne kindly, then please spread his kindness to others.

The family would like to thank the staff of Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital for their devoted care of Wayne and also the staff and volunteers of Mariposa House Hospice for their compassionate care of both Wayne and Mae during his final days.

Visitation for Wayne will be held at Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia, on Friday, March 15, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., as well as one hour of Visitation at St. James’ Church from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral. The Funeral Service will take place at St. James’ Anglican Church, 58 Peter Street North, Orillia, on Saturday, March 16, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Andrews-St. James’ Cemetery, 320 Coldwater Road, Orillia. Reception will follow in the Stubley Auditorium at St. James’ Church
