Thomas James Paterson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas James Paterson (Tom, or Tommy to his family) on June 23, 2026, just a few months before his 90th birthday. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Spencer House in Orillia for their exceptional care and kindness.

Tommy was Janet’s devoted husband of 65 years, a loving father to Kenneth, Christine (predeceased), Neil, and Heather (Taylor), and grandfather to Erika and Robert. Tommy was cherished by his family and friends and will be dearly missed by his cousins, nieces, and nephews in Scotland.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Tommy served in the British Royal Air Force before moving to Hamilton, Ontario, in 1961. There, he had a long and dedicated career with T. Eaton Company and proudly belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion for 60 years.

Tommy will be remembered for his good nature, warm spirit, and natural gift for entertaining others. He was always quick to tell a joke and make people laugh. As a child, he sang and tap-danced, including entertaining people in bomb shelters during the Second World War.

Later in life, he continued sharing his love of performance as a member of the senior men’s dance group The Spice Guys. For nearly 20 years, he performed at Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! events, delighting audiences with his charm.

Tommy was deeply loved and will be truly missed. His kindness, humour, and joyful presence will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held later in Hamilton.

Rest peacefully, Tommy.
