Laurin; Roger Stanley
On Sunday, January 11th, just after 11 p.m., Roger Stanley Laurin passed away surrounded by his dedicated and loving wife, Helen and his daughter, Sandy and son, Ryan. That night, his long struggle against dementia finally came to an end. As Roger fought and fought a killer of a disease, Helen was always at his side.
Roger was born on October 21st, 1950, in Sudbury, Ontario. Born to Stanley and Justine, Roger was a part of a large family and is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Raymond (Rachel) and Richard (Brenda). He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Irene (Richard), brothers Len (Judy)(predeceased), Ron (Lee)(predeceased) and Bob. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews.
As a teenager, Roger moved to Oshawa and met the love of his life, Helen Laurin. Together, they made a wonderful life together and welcomed Sandy (Brent) and Ryan (Brenda).
Roger was an incredibly hard worker at General Motors in Oshawa for 32 years. Always keen and determined to provide the best possible for his family and his children's education, he worked many many extra shifts and overtime. This will surely be one of Roger's enduring legacy - selflessness.
Roger was an exceptionally handy person and was skilled in woodworking, building and renovating, something he passed on to Ryan. He was often found working in his garage workshop and then the beautiful stand alone workshop he built in the backyard. His skills were partnered with a love of the outdoors, especially downhill skiing and biking. He knew the trails of Kirby as well as anyone and loved spending time doing these activities. Over the years, he especially enjoyed several ski trips with friends.
"Pa" was so proud of his four grandchildren Owen, Braedan, Andrew and Abby. One by one, they became a beautiful part of his life. One of his greatest joys was the time he spent watching their hockey games, ski and trampoline competitions. He will always live on in the hearts, thoughts and lives of his grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the incredible staff of Spencer House for their dedication to their residents, including Roger. Dignity, compassion, understanding and kind care helped the family a great deal over the last 1 1/2 years. Roger was not one for crowds or being the centre of attention. As per his wishes, there will not be a service. If desired, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted to the Mundell Funeral Home, Orillia.
