Robert 'Bob' Shaw

It is with immense love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Russell Bruce “Bob” Shaw on September 24, 2026.

Born on March 28, 1953, Bob passed peacefully at Mariposa House Hospice surrounded by love.

At the heart of Bob’s life was his family. He was the devoted husband of 51 years to Janet (née Stanton), his beloved wife, best friend, and steadfast partner. Their marriage was something truly special—strong, enduring, and deeply real. Built on unwavering love, friendship, and a lifetime of standing side by side, their bond was like no other. Through all of life’s joys and challenges, they remained each other’s constant, creating a beautiful life together and a love that rarely wavered.

He was the cherished father of Kristin (Dan), Katie (Murray), and Kelsey (Erik), and a much-loved brother to Linda Instance (the late Bill), Susan Dyte (Jim), and David Shaw (Pam). Bob was predeceased by his beloved parents, Russel Bruce “Artie” Shaw and Helen “Jill” Mundell.

Bob was, without question, a girl dad. And he loved every minute of it. He would do everything and anything for his girls. He was their fierce protector, their guiding hand, their greatest teacher, and the person they always knew they could count on. He was their hero.

Then came the grandchildren, and somehow Bob found an entirely new way to love. To William, Simon, Ellie, and Ethan, he was Bibi and Grampie—and there was simply no comparison. He was the best. There were the biggest bear hugs, endless junk food, and the kind of spoiling only a grandfather could get away with. He loved taking William, Simon, and Ellie to their extracurriculars and was always ready to cheer them on. When Ethan needed a ride to school, Bob would be the first to volunteer. Nothing was ever an inconvenience when it came to his grandchildren. He simply loved being with them.

Bob spent more than 20 years as the Director of Sales at Cleveland’s House Resort in Muskoka. It was more than a career to him. He was a natural leader and mentor who took tremendous pride in the people around him, leading a devoted team and building lasting relationships with loyal guests who returned with their families year after year. Bob had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome, valued, and remembered.

He later brought those same qualities to a career in real estate, joining the Royal LePage Quest team in Orillia, where he spent more than a decade. His colleagues became a second family, and his clients became much more than transactions. Bob genuinely cared about the people he served, and in return, he was loved, trusted, and cherished by so many. But careers and accomplishments only tell a small part of Bob’s story.

He was kind, loyal, generous, and selfless to his core. A mentor and a leader, Bob never needed recognition for the things he did. Helping others simply came naturally to him. If there was something he could do to make another person’s day easier, brighter, or a little more special, he found a way to do it. He had the rare gift of making ordinary things feel extraordinary.

And Bob knew how to enjoy the wonderfully simple things in life. He was a die-hard Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leaf’s fan and, without question, the King of the remote control. And wherever he was, no matter the place or time of day, he had a Diet Coke and a cup full of ice close at hand. Those are the things we will remember. The big things, certainly—the husband, the dad, the Bibi and Grampie, the leader, and friend. But also, the wonderfully ordinary things; because that was Bob. He showed up. He loved fiercely. And he made people feel like they mattered.

Our hearts are broken by the loss of a man we simply were not ready to live without. But recognize how incredibly fortunate we were to call him ours.

A celebration of Bob’s life and reception will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 1:00pm until 4:00pm at Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia, where family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate a truly remarkable man. Cremation will take place prior to the service, with burial to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Mariposa House Hospice in Bob’s memory.

Our family will be forever grateful to the compassionate team at Mariposa House Hospice, who surrounded Bob, and all of us, with kindness, dignity, comfort, and love during his final days. In one of the most difficult moments of our lives, they gave our family the precious gift of simply being together, allowing Bob to be surrounded by those who loved him most.
