Raymond Louis Martel

September 11, 1943 — January 5, 2026

Raymond Martel passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5th, at 5:30 a.m., listening to his favourite music.

Born in Winnipeg to Raoul and Arlette Martel, Raymond spent his early childhood there before moving with his family to Hamilton. From a young age, he showed a natural talent for both carpentry and classical music-passions that would remain central throughout his life.

Raymond was a skilled carpenter and a dedicated piano teacher who took great pride in his work. He believed in doing what he loved and continued to practice his crafts for as long as he was able. Even as his health declined, he remained resourceful and determined, finding ways to stay connected to the work that gave his life meaning.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Martel; his son, Mathieu Martel; and his step-sons, Mark Reid and Scott Reid. He is also survived by his brother, Robert, and his sister, Lucille. He was predeceased by his parents, Raoul and Arlette, and by his brother, Paul.

Raymond will be remembered for his craftsmanship, perseverance, and quiet devotion to a life lived with purpose.

A service for family will be held at Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St., N., Orillia on Saturday, January 17th, at 12pm with a celebration of life open to the public to follow in the spring.
