Paul Hunnisett

September 7, 1939 — October 17, 2020

HUNNISETT, Paul

Paul passed peacefully at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Orillia, with family by his side, on Saturday, October 17th, 2020.  Beloved husband of Rona (née Burlington). Loving father of Jennifer (Eric Pham-Dinh) and Teri. Proud grandfather of Benjamin and Nathan Polley, and Emma, Zack, and Audrey Pham-Dinh. Dear brother of Bette (Jack Phipps) of Toronto, uncle of Alison Child (Don Martin) and Meredith (Adam Oberfrank), and great-uncle to Claire Martin.

Born on September 7, 1939 in Toronto, Paul dedicated his career to teaching and counselling with the North York Board of Education. After his retirement in 1995, he could be found at his hand-built log cabin on Sparrow Lake, or at his sunny Florida home in Fort Myers, and later in North Port.

Paul was a long-time member of the Lake St. George Golf Club, holding the club championship title in 1962. His love of sailing encouraged him to take a sabbatical with his young family in 1977–78, when they sailed their 30-foot yacht “Windigo” to Florida and the Bahamas.

His skill on the water was also on display for two decades of summer Saturdays with the Sparrow Lake Sailing Club. His competitive spirit was alive to the end with his cheers for his beloved Blue Jays. Paul was a lover of sports (especially golf and tennis), music, stamps, woodworking, weather statistics, and cottage chaos.  He included his friends and family in his passions and was always ready with a joke, a song, some kitchen dancing, or playing on the lake.

Friends and relatives will be received at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia on Friday October 23rd from 10:30- 12:45 p.m.
