Paul Douglas Biggar

Passed away peacefully at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the age of 75. Loving father of Jennifer (Jeff Hooper) and Christopher. Proud grandfather of Sophie and James. Dear brother of Susan (the late Harold Strom), Bill (Christine), Bob (Maggie) and Tom (Ana). Deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, his former wife (Janice), and friends. Predeceased by his parents, Douglas and Helen, and his sister, Beverley.

Paul was born and grew up in Toronto. He graduated from the University of Toronto (St. Michael’s College) in 1972 earning a Bachelor of Arts (English major). Paul fondly remembered his early jobs selling advertising for the Globe and Mail and working as a car salesman. Paul then settled into his much-loved career as a finishing carpenter and he was a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America (Local 27) for 36 years. Paul and family moved to Orillia in 1990, starting a new chapter but continuing to have strong connections to family and friends in Toronto, including his life-long friends "the Jets". Paul moved to Oro-Medonte in the mid-2000’s and built a house almost exclusively on his own and with great skill.

Paul had many interests in life: music, literature, cars and motor car racing, carpentry, and yoga, among others. He was involved in kart racing in the late 70’s and 80’s and was proud to continue that hobby with his son, Christopher. He never missed an IndyCar or Formula 1 race and attended races whenever he could. Paul was also an avid guitar player, playing local gigs in Toronto in his younger years and keeping his Martin guitar as one of his prized possessions. In retirement, Paul spent many a happy hour going for walks and doing sudoku puzzles.

In his later years, Paul lived in Cobourg and then Peterborough, before returning to Orillia in 2025. Special thanks to the staff at Victoria House, and the Leacock Care Centre where Paul felt happy and at home in his last months. Also heartful thanks to Dr. Harmathy and the wonderful staff at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.

Cremation has taken place, and a life celebration will be held at a later date. If desired, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County.
