Maurice (Moe) André Gauthier

Moe was a going concern from the start.

Constantly on the move building, fixing, dancing or playing – there was never a dull moment.

Moe spent countless days hiking, skiing, paddling and mountain biking. He loved being in the bush with the people he loved.

He grew up in the North, steeped in the love and warmth of a strong family and a close community. Moe spread that love and care to everyone he encountered, always taking the time to connect and brighten each person’s day.

He was a lifelong teacher, sharing his wealth of knowledge and passion for life with students for 32 years at ODCVI and Twin Lakes. He built the Outers Club and outdoor ed program at Twin, connecting students with the land and with the potential he always saw in them. He was so proud of all his Outers.

Always present, always kind, he was a constant in so many lives. Providing acceptance, strength and joy to all who needed it. No problem too small, no job too big, if you needed him, he was there – with bells on. Whether he was cutting firewood for his family or working on a friend’s home, Moe’s greatest joy was serving others.

Moe will be held close by his loving wife Christine Manners, children Andre (Joanna), Emma (Mark) and Chanelle (Hunter), and sister Louise (Jim).

He built a beautiful home and strong family with Christine, the love of his life. He felt he was living paradise. Whether they were traveling the world, exploring the forest or sharing a glass of wine at the end of a long day, they were always on an adventure together. Never short on conversation, never short on laughs, they created many moments together and allowed others share in their magic.

Moe shared his boundless energy and love with his three children. He provided the foundation, space and encouragement for each of them to dream big, work hard and live authentically. He showed them the importance of always being prepared, of giving your best shot and of savouring life’s simple joys.

He inspired all of us with his profound wisdom, strength, patience and integrity. He lit up our lives with his captivating stories and outrageous sense of humour. He was our hero, our heart, our rock.

To honour all of these gifts and lessons he gave so selflessly, we invite you to do something to bring ease and joy to another person. Get outside, be silly, learn something new, be grateful for each day.

And most of all – Have Some Fun.

Family and friends are invited to visit with the family at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia on Saturday, November 18th from 3PM until time of Celebration of Life in the chapel at 4PM.
