It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Diana Winterburn (née McCarthy). Diana passed away peacefully on June 19 at Spencer House, surrounded by her loved ones after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She has reunited in heaven with her parents, John and Veronica McCarthy, and her sister Sherry (Michael).

Diana leaves behind her sister Janet (Bill) and brother John. She was best friends with and a beloved wife to Doug for 41 years, and she was also a devoted mother to Katie (Jeff), DJ (Amanda), and Stephen (Annie). In addition, Diana was a doting grandmother to Mackenzie, Bradley, Claire, Abiageal, and Parker. She was a cherished aunt to Mandi (Mat), Wil (Jenna), Becky (Stuart), Andrew, and many more, along with numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Diana had many passions and interests, but her greatest love was for her family and her faith. Before the progression of her Alzheimer's, she served as a eucharistic minister at Guardian Angels Church and was an active parent volunteer in both the St. Bernard and Patrick Forgarty school communities. Alongside her sister Janet, she dedicated countless hours to running parent council events, breakfast clubs, milk programs, and many other activities.

Diana met her husband Doug while both were working for Bell Canada. They fell in love instantly, sharing a deep commitment to family and a desire to start one of their own. Their love story spanned nearly 50 years, and they celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary just days before her passing.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Spencer House for their kindness and support over the past 11 months. They provided exceptional care not only for Diana but for the entire family during these heartbreaking times.

Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will take place at the Guardian Angels Church, 115 West St., N., Orillia, on Saturday, July 19th, 2025 at 11 am. A Celebration of Diana's Life (Reception) to take place following the Mass downstairs in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Diana’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Simcoe County. Arrangements entrusted to the Mundell Funeral Home, Orillia
