Mary Gogarty

Passed away peacefully at her ancestral home in Atherley on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at the age of 97.

Born in Los Angeles in 1928, moved to Calgary as a child, worked in Toronto, Houston, Washington D.C. before retiring back home in Atherley. Mary (nee Lanigan), beloved wife of her predeceased husband, Bernard Gogarty for 56 years. Loving mother of Brian (Ellen) of Atherley. Proud grandmother of Markham and Mariana. Loving sister of her predeceased brothers Edward, John and Bernie. Dear sister-in-law, cousin, aunt and great aunt of many nieces and nephews in Canada, Ireland, England, New Zealand and Australia. Mary loved her family and the wonderful times they spent together. Family gatherings usually involved lots of Irish songs and Mary loved to kick up her heels to dance a jig or two.

Visitation for Mary will be held at Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia, on Tuesday, May 27 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, May 28 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Parish Prayers will take place in the funeral home on Wednesday at 12:15 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Columbkille's Church, Uptergrove, on Wednesday, May 28 at 2:00 p.m.  Following the Mass, friends and family are invited to join in a Celebration of Mary’s Life from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch #34) 215 Mississaga Street East, Orillia.  A private family interment will take place at St. Columbkille’s Church Cemetery.
