Luella Mae Atkinson

June 3, 1929 — September 17, 2025

LUELLA “MAE” ATKINSON (nee Jordan)

Luella “Mae” Atkinson (nee Jordan) of Orillia went home to be with the Lord September 17, 2025, with family by her side in her 97th year at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that touched the lives of all who knew her.

She was born June 3, 1929 in New Brunswick and spent the last 70 years in Orillia dedicating her life to her family and Christian faith.

A beloved wife of Roy T. Atkinson (predeceased. A loving and amazing mother of Talmage Atkinson (Darlene) of Kingston, Robert Atkinson (Shawna) of Oro-Medonte and Brenda Wood (Bruce) of Severn. Cherished grandmother of Brent, Joe, Marc, Carrie, Jordan, and Ethan. Proud great-grandmother of Owen, River, Willow, Cameron, Triston, Madisynne, Braxton and Selena and great-great grandmother of Jaxon and Clayton. Much loved sister of Neil Jordan (predeceased), Alta Keeling (predeceased), Merritt Jordan (Fern) of New Brunswick and Marie Ackerson (predeceased). Daughter of the Ruby Campbell (predeceased) and Walter Jordan (predeceased).

Mae's greatest calling was being a devoted and loving mother, always present and supportive of her family. Alongside her beloved husband Roy, Mae worked diligently in the family business for many years. She dedicated nearly 40 years as a volunteer at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital and was a cherished member of the First Baptist Church choir for over 50 years. Mae also served faithfully as Treasurer of both the Baptist Women’s Group and the Georgian Bay Association of Baptist Women. Her creative spirit shone through in her love of quilting, knitting, paper tole and puzzles.

Mae moved to the Atrium Retirement Residence in Orillia in 2023. Remarkably, this wonderful place became home immediately to her and also to Brenda. Words cannot express how grateful Mae was for her new family there. You can call the folks that worked there “staff” but that would be a lie. They were Mae’s family. She had so many friends there. The Atrium was truly her home.

Mae will be fondly remembered as a sweet, kind, and caring woman, devoted Christian and a steadfast prayer warrior for her family.

Mae cherished the following verse of the Bible in her last days “Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

A service will be held at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Orillia Wednesday September 24th, 2025 at 1:00pm. Visitation will be from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.mundellfuneralhome.com.
