Tischler; Kurt
Born January 5, 1929, in Linz, Austria, Kurt celebrated his 95th birthday before his passing on January 24, 2024 at the Tiffin Retirement residence in Midland. Predeceased by parents Johanna (“Hansi”) and Matteus Tischler, wife Anna, sister-in-law Adele Obraz, brother-in-law Ernst Obraz,
Cherished uncle of niece Christine Hager (John Wesley), of Orillia; great nephews Matthew Elson (Amy), daughter Allia and son Jamison of Midhurst and Jason Elson (Kristin), sons Brandt and Dylan of Sudbury.
After WWII ended, Kurt and Anna chose Canada over Australia and emigrated in 1955, to Sudbury, Ontario. He was employed by Inco and worked in the Copper Cliff smelter until his retirement.
Kurt kept busy dabbling in many hobbies. Aquariums and exotic fish filled the basement of his first home; his passion for philately was evident in his extensive stamp and coin collections, and his meticulous outdoor garden was filled with fragrant roses, peonies, and other beautiful flowers. Blue jays, in search of peanuts, were regular guests on the kitchen windowsill. Over the years, his dogs Rex, Toby and Lucky kept him busy walking the neighborhood. He also rediscovered his talent for painting and drawing.
His love of fishing, whether rain or shine, was evident. Always searching for the big one, a camera waited nearby to photograph the catch. Together Kurt and Anna loved theatrical and music stage productions, as well as Big band era and jazz music Often they would travel to New York city to enjoy the offerings in the Big Apple.
