Karen Lynda Buchan

November 5, 1947 - August 30, 2026

Karen Lynda Buchan (nee Broomhead) passed away August 30, 2026 in her home at the age of 78, with her devoted husband of 58 years, Anthony (Tony) Patrick Buchan by her side. Karen is fondly remembered as Nanny to Graham and Lauryn Buchan and Zia, Scarlett and Leo Martin. Karen grew up in Chapleau, Ontario and often reminisced about her childhood and her parents Walter and Kathleen Broomhead (predeceased), with a favourite memory of many happy hours spent working and skiing at the Chapleau ski hill. Karen spent 12 years in Saudi Arabia with her beloved pilot husband, having adventures and raising two children who gave her infinite pride throughout her life: Jeffrey Anthony Walter Buchan (Kim McIntosh) and Kirsten Kathleen Martin (Allan Martin). The family moved back to Timmins, Ontario where Karen worked as a bank manager, skied (with exceptional skill) at Kamiscotia, and continued raising her two children. Later, Karen and Tony spent time moving about southern Ontario, spending the past 6 years in Orillia. Her Chapleau family fondly remember her as “Dowie”, a sister to Ross (predeceased) and Frank Broomhead, a sister-in-law to Frenda and Karin Broomhead, and a special aunt to Taralee, Tracey, Todd, Ken, Kendra, Keith and JR Broomhead. Friends and family are requested to consider donating to the Chapleau Ski Club in Karen’s memory, or a charity of their choice. The family will celebrate Karen’s life privately at a later date.
