John "Jack" Marshall

John Cecil "Jack" Marshall passed away peacefully on April 18th, 2024, in his 88th year after a full and happy life. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Marshall (Speicher) and sons Jeff (Jane) and Craig (Raune-lea).  He was adored by his four granddaughters, Aren Marshall-Chen (Sandrae), Taylor Timpf (Adam), Hayden Marshall, and Quinn Marshall (Curtis).

He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren - Marshall, Kehlani, and Adler.

He is survived by his sister, June Rath (Bill), and his brother Robert (Sandra), and will be missed by his many nieces and nephews and a large extended family.

Jack was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and he loved his family very much. Jack was always a very proud Orillian.  He attended West Ward Public School and ODCVI. He started his career with the Orillia Packet and Times and Thomson Newspapers as a cub reporter in 1955 and worked his way up to being Managing Editor and ultimately Publisher of the paper until his retirement in 1990.

He was an avid outdoorsmen, hunter, and fisherman, and a very interested and knowledgeable naturalist. He was a voracious reader of non-fiction and history. Above all, he was proud of his family and all of their accomplishments.

Thank you very much to the staff at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital and Spencer House for their efforts and caring over his last year.

Visitation will take place at Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia, on Tuesday, April 30, from 10:00am until 11:30am, with a Celebration of Life thereafter. Luncheon to follow at Mundell Funeral Home with interment at Barkway Cemetery, Gravenhurst, at 3pm. (No black flies allowed!)

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Couchiching Conservancy.
