JOHN HENRY DAHMER (Jack)
A longtime resident of Orillia, and formerly of Kitchener-Waterloo, Jack passed away peacefully-and finally pain-free-at Mariposa House Hospice on July 5, 2025.
Beloved husband of Judith (née Langman), and of the late Carol (née Fox). Cherished father of Douglas Dahmer and his wife Nancy; the late Mark Dahmer and his wife Linda of Dryden; Meribeth Barron and her husband Bob of Norland; and Carol Anne Uhrig and her husband Phil MacKenzie of Kitchener. Proud grandfather of Heather, James, Krystle, Lauren, Kyla, Tessa, Josh, Ashley, Jennifer, and Jessica. Jack’s legacy continues through 14 great-grandchildren.
He was the dear brother of Ronald Dahmer of Cambridge, with brothers Cecil and George predeceased.
📚 A Life Dedicated to Learning
Jack was a devoted mathematics teacher at ODCVI and Park Street Collegiate in Orillia from 1955-1968, and later served as vice principal at several schools in the Kitchener-Waterloo region, including KCI, WCI, BCI, WODSS, and GRCI until his retirement in 1990. His enthusiasm for teaching and genuine kindness left lasting impressions on generations of students, far beyond the classroom walls.
🌲 Lover of Nature and Storytelling
Jack found peace in the quiet rhythms of camping and canoeing-despite never learning how to swim. He delighted in watching birds visit his feeder and was endlessly amused (and challenged) by his ongoing battles with squirrels and raccoons.
A master storyteller, Jack had the rare gift of blending humor and wisdom in a way that made every tale unforgettable. We will miss his laughter, his thoughtful insights, and the glint in his eye when recounting one of his many beloved stories. Fittingly, his final tale was about how it took a bag of rocks to bring him down-a story only Jack could make bittersweet and funny all at once.
