It is with heavy hearts the family of Jane Meade, announces her passing on December 1st, 2023, peacefully at her home in Ladner BC. At 73 years of age Jane leaves behind her children, daughter Miranda (Cameron), son Wade (Sydney), sister Penny (Robert), cherished granddaughter Gwendolyn, and beloved nieces, Marice and Kristy.
Jane’s core value in life was family first, and she treated everyone she met like family, creating an everlasting memory in their lives and hers. She was always first to lend a caring hand, friendly ear, or humorous anecdote to those who needed it. Janes caring personality led to her thriving career in nursing for 35yrs. A strong advocate for the health care profession, Jane started her career as a nurse, working hard and taking a 5 year graduate program (while raising to rambunctious toddlers) to gain the certifications needed to move into a management role. First as a nursing and staffing administrator, to manager, eventually to a telehealth communications manager before retiring at the age of 55. Jane was a fixture in the hospital, through many social events, fundraisers, and emergency response leader during Y2K. Jane kept many close friendships with her colleagues over the years after her retirement, slowly fading as she moved west to be closer to her children.
Jane first moved to BC in 2015, where she would “Winter” on Vancouver Island, and Summer in Ontario, driving cross country every 6 months with a close friend or family member each time. Jane finally settled in Victoria, BC in September of 2018, then a final move to Ladner in 2020.
Jane’s love of travel started well before her many cross-country adventures. She first traveled to Dominican on a nursing mission in the 70’s, her traveling did change back to more cross-country adventures in the 80’s, first with Dan as their honeymoon, then again as a family vacation. She later travelled to Australia and New Zealand, the Caribbean, and her last trip Scotland and Ireland in.
Through all of her adventures she always had a tie back to family, whether traveling with family or visiting the countries her family came from, Janes connection to those who she held dear in her heart was there.
As much as she will be missed, her family is comforted to know Jane is now once again reunited with the love of her life, her late husband Dan.
