James Douglas Williams

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James ‘Jim’ Williams on August 11, 2026, at the Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Beloved husband to Jane (nee Evans) for 31 wonderful years. Son of the late Floyd and Joan Halstead; dear brother of John (Joanne) Williams, Joanne (Dale) Warren, and Lynne (Jim) Brownell. Much loved brother-in-law to Anthony (Diane, predeceased) Evans, Paul (Marlene) Evans, Anne Evans, Josie (Brian) Grubb, Mary (Phillip) Armstead, and Peter (Liz) Smith. Proud and loving uncle to Scott & Chris (Teresa) Williams; Jason Warren; Kirk & Julie Brownell; Neil & Joel Evans; Katrina (Andy) Nemeth; Sean Massa, Ashley (Matt) Rolinsky; Darcy Paull (Matt); Dan & Katy Walker; Claire, Kate & Louise Armstead; Michelle Galpin and Joanne Smith. Jim will also be dearly missed by his extended family and many friends.

Known to most as Jim, he was a man whose mind was always working. Numbers seemed to come more naturally to him than words, and he had an incredible ability to see patterns and solve problems. He could often be found tackling the hardest level of Sudoku, a testament to the sharp and curious mind he carried throughout his life. Professionally, Jim enjoyed a successful career and was a prominent Vice President with CBS International, where his intelligence, dedication, and ability to connect with others served him well.

Outside of his career, Jim found great enjoyment in the simple things that made life meaningful. He was an avid golfer and, above all, a devoted dog lover. Over the years, his home was shared with a succession of beloved companions; Polly, Technique, Snickers, Buffy, Kelsey, and Abby over their years together. Jim believed deeply in the loyalty and faithfulness of a dog, and they held a very special place in his heart.

Jim’s greatest gift was the value he placed on the people in his life. His own love story began quite by happenstance, when he met the woman who would become his wife while conducting an inspection at her workplace; and as such prompted a partnership that would span the next 36 years. Together, they built their life in Oro-Medonte, surrounded by the dogs they loved and the people who meant the most to them. He was a proud uncle to his many nieces and nephews and took genuine joy in watching them grow and being part of their lives. To Jim, family was not simply defined by relation, but by the love, loyalty, and memories shared with one another.

After his diagnosis, he faced each challenge with remarkable strength and determination. He fought valiantly, never seeking sympathy and rarely complaining, carrying himself with the same quiet resolve that characterized so much of his life. Jim passed with dignity, surrounded by the family he loved. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, laughter, cherished relationships, and countless memories that will remain with those fortunate enough to have known him.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, from 1:00pm until 4:00pm, at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia. All are welcome to share memories and celebrate Jim’s life.
