James (Jim) Roland Thrush (1947 - 2014), 66, of Orillia, Ontario passed away following a brief illness on May 16, 2014 at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Ontario. Jim was born on July 29, 1947 in Charleston, W. Va to Roland and Helen Thrush, both pre-deceased. He was born with the urge to travel, to learn and to enjoy life. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia in 1969 where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa. His career as a computer expert took him to live and work in Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Singapore and Japan before settling in the Bay Area of California. Jim's vacation travels took him to all seven continents and numerous countries. He became an accomplished pilot and skied the black diamond runs around the world. He enjoyed riding his Harley, golfing, cooking gourmet dinners and obtaining a professional sake master certification. Mostly however he enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and canine companions. Jim and his wife of 35 years, Phyllis, along with their dog Rocky retired in 2013 and moved from California to Orillia. In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his sister, Barbara Lester (Ron); a daughter, Sarah Jonkus (Vyte); two grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces along with many close friends. A special thank you to the dedicated and compassionate staff at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Bailey and the entire team of doctors and nurses treated Jim and all of us with respect and dignity while providing excellent medical care. Visitation will be held at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia on Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 12:00 noon until time of Funeral Service in the chapel at 1 p.m. Burial will be at St. Andrew's -St. James' Cemetery, Orillia.
