James Wilson Hunter passed away at Mariposa House Hospice in Orillia on October 6, 2025, shortly after celebrating his 82nd birthday. Beloved husband of Meada Hunter, devoted father of Scott (Kayla) and Marci, and cherished grandfather of Jessie (Matt), Madison, and Piper. Jim was the eldest brother of Bill (Sue), Anne (Lou), and the late Hank.
Jim was a dedicated elementary school teacher in Orillia from 1965 to 1998, serving at several schools across Simcoe County. He was active in his community, including serving on the board at Brechin United Church.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Jim moved to Ontario with his family at the age of two and resided in Etobicoke before ultimately settling in Orillia.
He was an avid sports participant and lifelong fan, playing baseball, ball hockey, basketball, ice hockey and golf throughout his life.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, October 14 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia. A Funeral Service will be held in the Mundell Chapel on Wednesday, October 15 at 1:00pm with a reception to follow.
Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Mariposa House Hospice.
