James "Jim" Ernest Cotton

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Ernest Cotton, of Oro-Medonte, Ontario, who passed away on September 18, 2026, at the age of 73.

Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Lynda Lee Cotton, and his grandson, Gavin James Ronnie Cotton. He will be forever loved and deeply missed by his son, Brad Cotton; Brad’s wife, Amanda Cotton; and his granddaughter, Brook Cotton.

Jim was an outdoorsman through and through. He loved camping, fishing, hunting and snowmobiling, and he passed that love of the outdoors down to his son, Brad. The two shared many of those experiences over the years, creating memories that Brad will carry with him for the rest of his life.

Jim was also incredibly talented with his hands. He created beautiful woodworking pieces and took tremendous pride in his home and yard. Whether he was building something, working outside or heading into the bush, Jim was happiest keeping busy and doing the things he loved.

Over his lifetime, Jim made many long-standing friendships. Some of those friends are still here to raise a glass in his memory, while others went before him. We like to think that somewhere on the other side, Jim has already found them and is sitting down for a long-overdue whiskey and Diet Coke.

Jim wasn’t a mushy or overly sentimental man. He showed his love differently. When his family needed him, he was there. Always. Beneath that tough exterior was a man who loved his family deeply and would do whatever he could for the people who mattered to him.

Our greatest comfort is imagining that when Jim left us, he wasn’t alone for long. We hope he was greeted by Lynda, the woman he shared 50 years of his life with, and by his grandson Gavin, who was taken far too soon.

After so much time apart, we hope they are together again.

Jim leaves behind a lifetime of memories, stories, traditions and pieces of himself that will continue through the family he loved.

He will be deeply missed and could never be forgotten.

Visitation will be held at the Mundell Funeral Home on Friday, September 25th from 12 noon until time of service in the chapel at 1 p.m. Interment: St. Andrew's - St. James' Cemetery - Orillia.
