VISSERS, Hubertus Johannes (Ben) was born in Leimuiden, The Netherlands, on June 17, 1935, and died surrounded by his family at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Orillia, on October 10, 2025, in his ninety-first year.
Ben was predeceased in 2015 by his beloved wife Anne (van Ysseldyk) of 58 years.
He was a loving father to John (Lynn) Vissers of Bracebridge and Marilyn (Jim) Watson of Brechin.
Ben was deeply loved by his grandchildren, all of whom he was extremely proud: Bethany (Rob) Readman, Grant (Konnie) Vissers, Laura Moon (Mike Bickers), Jennifer (Mark) Imrie, Jordan Moon, Joel (Amber) Vissers, and Samantha Watson.
‘Great-Opa’ will also be missed by his eleven great-grandchildren: Lydia, Ana, Rosslyn, Clarke, Hailey, Nolan, Evelyn, Malia, Calder, Bella, and Elizabeth.
He will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted companion, Marilyn Barnes, who brought joy and comfort in his final years.
Ben was the eldest of seven siblings: Han (Alice), Herb (Martha), Bill (Barb), John (Joan), Diane (Garry, predeceased), and Martin (predeceased).
In 1995, Ben retired to Orillia, where he found fulfillment in his woodworking, creating many treasured pieces for his grandchildren, all lovingly engraved with the inscription ‘Opa Ben’.
We give thanks for a long life, lived among family and friends, in faith, hope, and love. “The eternal God is our refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms” (Deut. 33:27).
