Gregory T. Evans

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we share that the life of Gregory Thomas Evans, born October 8th, 1945, came to a peaceful conclusion on April 12th, 2026. Gregory will forever be held close by his family, friends and especially by his children Jason (Lina), Tiffany, Melissa (Ralph O’Callaghan), Ryan and cherished as “Papa” by his grandchildren Elise, Lauren, Natasha, Cian and Ciara.

Gregory, son of The Honourable Gregory T. Evans and Zita Evans (both predeceased), was born in Timmins, Ontario. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings, The Honourable John Evans (Sue), Dr. Rory Evans, Mary Edwards (The Honourable Mark Edwards), Kerry Evans (Julie), Brendan Evans (Sharon), Cathy Rae (David), and Erin Evans (Darlene), and was predeceased by his brother Thomas (Esther). He was grateful for the friendship of his in-laws Ross and Marjory Faulkner (both predeceased) and will be fondly remembered by Ron and Anne-Marie Faulkner, Audrey and Tom Henderson, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins near and far.

After attending O’Gorman High School, Gregory pursued an undergraduate and law degree at the University of Windsor. Called to the Ontario Bar in 1975, he settled in Orillia with the eternal love of his life Colleen (predeceased April 13th, 2016). Gregory was passionate about the profession of law, and his legal legacy was formed over a 45-year career of advocacy serving the numerous communities of Simcoe County and Muskoka. He was a partner firstly in the firm of Clarke, Zwicker, Sparks & Evans, then with Zwicker, Evans & Lewis and finally with HGR Graham. To the end, Gregory held a deep appreciation for the many professional colleagues who enriched his life and he will be remembered for his kindness, strength, generosity, compassion and the meaningful impact he had helping his clients navigate life’s challenges.

As a devoted father, along with his wife Colleen, Gregory created a family home grounded in love, faith, respect and community service. Countless gatherings, either at home or by the lake, were characterized by laughter and were a testament to their shared commitment to nourishing strong familial bonds that have lasted a lifetime and will continue strong into the future. In his words, it was a “very fulfilling journey with greater blessings than I ever imagined”.

Gregory was an energetic and committed member of his community and believed in acts of service. He was a member of the Guardian Angels Parish Council, a founding member of Patrick Fogarty Secondary School, and a part time instructor at Georgian College. He created a Trial Advocacy Program and coordinated CBAO law days for high school students in Simcoe County. Gregory held memberships in the Knights of Columbus and multiple local, Canadian and international law associations. After witnessing the loving care his beloved Colleen received from Hospice Simcoe (Barrie), he was a driving force behind the creation of Mariposa House Hospice (Orillia) and a member of the inaugural Board of Directors. His dedication to service leaves a lasting legacy.

A Funeral Mass for Gregory will be held at Guardian Angels Catholic Church (115 West Street N. in Orillia) at 1:30pm on Wednesday April 22nd, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Royal Victoria Hospital (Barrie), Mariposa House Hospice (Orillia) or Hospice Simcoe (Barrie) in Gregory’s honour. Gregory, and his family, are forever grateful for the exceptional care, expertise and compassion shown by the many healthcare professionals who helped him navigate multiple health challenges in later years and during his final days surrounded by loved ones.
