Eric Schmidt

It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Eric Schmidt, who left us on Saturday, August 23, 2025. Born November 14, 1934, Eric was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose gentle spirit and steadfast kindness touched everyone he met.

Eric’s extraordinary journey through life was illuminated by the unwavering love he shared with his wife, Margaret. Married for 58 beautiful years, theirs was a partnership defined by laughter, mutual respect, and the simple joy of always holding hands. Their devotion to one another was an inspiration to all who knew them.

Eric was a devoted father to his two daughters, Heather Beckett (with her husband Todd) and Heidi Rocheleau (with her partner Michael Horvath). He took immense pride in their accomplishments and supported them in every chapter of their lives. His legacy of love and wisdom continues through his cherished grandchildren—Mckenzie Beckett, Connor Beckett, and Ben Rocheleau—who will carry his memory in their hearts and dearly miss his reassuring presence.

Eric was known not just for his intelligence and practical skills—he could fix nearly anything—but also for his readiness to help those around him. Whether lending a hand in his community or serving at his local church, Eric always gave selflessly, embodying true generosity and compassion. His wonderful sense of humour brightened countless gatherings, and he never turned down a good hug, spreading warmth and cheer wherever he went.

Arrangements have been entrusted with the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia. Cremation has taken place. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff of Soldiers Memorial Hospital, who provided Eric with such compassionate care in his final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Orillia in Eric’s memory.

Eric’s gentle touch, wise words, and loving ways will be forever remembered by all who knew him. May we honour his memory by walking through life as he did—hand in hand, with kindness, humour, and an open heart.
