Long, Clarwyn Brammer, April 10, 1933 - February 25, 2023

Surrounded by love and with his immediate family by his side, Clarwyn Brammer Long, 89, of Orillia passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2023, due to complications from a stroke suffered a week earlier. He spent his last week at the Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital, where he had a room with a view of the community and lake that provided him with inspiration his whole life.

Predeceased by his loving wife Bev, by only a few months, he leaves behind his children, Terry Long (Peter Sheppard), Dan Long and Greg (Christine) Long as well as cherished grandchildren Jordan (Lindsay), Grace, Gavin, Dana, Brogan Long and  Tangi (Scott) Stewart.

The son of Clarence and Mary Long, Clare was born and raised in Orillia with his sister Joanne (Joey) Gilroy (predeceased). He went on after high school to get a Bachelor of Business Administration at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York. Clare met the love of his life at Geneva Park in 1955 and they married in 1959. They settled in Orillia, where they raised their family enjoying the many opportunities of lakeside living. He started working at the family business, Dorr-Oliver-Long Limited, as a Controller, but soon left to pursue other endeavours. He was a true entrepreneur who poured his heart and soul into a variety of business ventures including the Hammock Harbour RV Park. Clare continued to work around the park, as much as he was able, into his 90th year. He was the President of Greenline Properties Ltd. which was incorporated to include the many family business ventures.

Clare’s many passions included local history, creating memorial books, music (playing the drums), watersports, especially waterskiing, basketball, tennis, and serving the community he loved. Clare was a member of the Brewery Bay Tennis Club and past Commodore of the Champlain Yacht Club. He was an active member of the Orillia Y’s Men’s Club for 27 years and past president as well. He served on the Salvation Army and YMCA Boards, was a member and Chairman of The Orillia Hall of Fame Committee, Director of the Huronia Tourist Association and life member of the St Paul’s United Church. He was one of the key members in bringing forth the Orillia Perch Festival, which has turned into one of the largest fishing derbies in North America. Travelling was a regular part of Clare and Bev’s life. They enjoyed trips with family and friends and in recent years discovered the world through cruises; ending on the Great Lakes for their 60th wedding anniversary.

Friends and family are welcome to share in the celebration of Clare’s life at Hawk Ridge Golf Club (1151 Hurlwood Lane, Severn) on Saturday, March 11th from 1-5 pm, visitation from 1-3, a service at 3 followed by a reception.
