It is with great sadness I announce the passing of my wonderful mother Christina Bickford.
Christina was born on December 3, 1922 in Scotland. She passed peacefully on September 28, 2025 at The Birchmere residence in Orillia, Ontario. Christina is predeceased by her husband Samuel Bickford and her son James. She is survived by her daughter Melanie of Kenora, Ontario.
Christina was raised in Balerno, Scotland. She married the love of her life in 1945. She was a war bride and immigrated to Canada after the war. Mom was a very caring and compassionate woman. She always took care to look her best. She enjoyed many activities including golf, dancing, and walking. She never had a driver’s license and she walked everywhere. Reading was a passion.
For many years she was a dedicated volunteer at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital. She spent many years working at Miller's Ladies Wear. She loved animals, in particular the dogs of family and friends. She loved haggis and always went to the Robbie Burns dinner. Her favourite meal grace was the Selkirk Grace by Robbie Burns. "Some hae meat an canna eat, And some hae nain that want it; But we hae meat, and we can eat, So let the Lord be thankit."
Special thanks to Birchmere support people: wait staff, Bayshore Nursing, and PSWs.
Arrangements have been entrusted with the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia. Cremation has taken place. Her ashes will rest at St. Andrews Cemetery in Orillia with her husband and son.
