Bruce Campbell Eckstein

September 13, 1944 — August 11, 2023

Eckstein; Bruce Campbell

It is with deepest sorrow that the family of Bruce Campbell Eckstein announce his passing on Friday, August 11, 2023, in his 79th year, at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. Lovingly remembered by his stepdaughter Shelley (Grandchildren), Sister Gloria (Andrew and Eric), brother Murray (Debbie) and nieces and nephews, Ian, Heather (Jesse), Andrew and Eric, and four great-grandchildren Karley, Cole, Tobias, and Meghan. Bruce was predeceased by his wife Shirley in December 2022 and his parents, Elmer and Florence Eckstein.  Bruce was a Middle School Teacher with the Toronto District School Board at Queensborough Junior High and Elia Middle School.  He received his BA from Waterloo Lutheran University (now, Wilfred Laurier University) and his teaching certificate from the Ontario College of Teachers in 1965.  He was
described by his students as a “Legacy” and comments about him include; he was my favourite teacher, he was kind, special, well liked, had a huge impact, left his mark, incredible person, strict and powerful voice, super neat writing and simply a good guy.  He was a cat lover and owned many strays over the years. His first Cat Whisky (apply named as he loved Whisky too - too much), Blacks, and Louie all brought him much joy. He was described as a wicked bridge player and spent much of his free time watching and playing Curling with his wife Shirley, whom he loved dearly. The family would like to thank the ICU and staff at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial and Collingwood Hospital for providing care and support during his many hospitalizations over the years. There will not be a funeral service.  Interment at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo will follow in the Spring. As expressions of sympathy, condolences for the family and memorial donations to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital or Peel Animal Rescue, may be arranged by contacting the funeral home.  Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.mundellfuneralhome.com
