“Bob” John Robert Frederick MacDonald

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Robert Frederick MacDonald, known to most as Bob, on August 28, 2025 in Calgary, Alberta. Beloved husband to the late “Katy” Olive Kathaleen (nee Kittle). Loving and devoted father to Edwin (Elaine) MacDonald, Geoffrey (Pamela) MacDonald, and Peter (Christine) MacDonald. Proud grandfather to Mykayla, Tanner, Jude, Rane, Angus, Henry, Fiona, and Charles. Predeceased by parents Edwin and Mary. Dear brother to Betty (Bob, predeceased) Hinton.

Born in Peterborough, Bob traversed Canada many times before and after choosing Orillia as his home. He was a great lacrosse player, an avid race car fan, and always enjoyed a cold 50. Bob thoroughly enjoyed helping his children in many cross-country adventures; nurtured their passion for skiing; facilitated summers at the French; and later spent many days with his grandchildren at the beach.

Bob forged strong connections in Orillia through his ownership of the Weed Man for over 30 years. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, where he proudly served the community for decades.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, September 4 from 7-9pm at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia. A Funeral Service will follow on Friday, September 5 at St. George (Fairvalley) Anglican Church, 66 Fairvalley Church Road, Coldwater at 1:00pm. Bob will rest in the St. George Cemetery, Fairvalley. A reception will follow the service at the Coldwater Legion.
