Basil James Baye

October 28, 1941 — January 5, 2026

Basil Baye passed away unexpectedly at his home in Orillia on Monday, January 5, 2026, in his 85th year.

Basil was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Francis “Frank” Baye; his beloved life partner, Lucille McNaughton-Baye; and his son, Basil James Baye Jr. He has now joined them in eternal rest.

He will be lovingly remembered by his many siblings: Mary Frances, Joyce, Theresa, Gene, Garry, Margret, Gordon, Eileen, Frank, Sharon, and John, as well as by his many nieces and nephews. Basil will also be deeply missed by his extended in-law family, including his sisters-in-law Wilma and Pat; brothers-in-law Larry and George; and their families.

While Basil held equal love for all his nieces and nephews, he shared a particularly close bond with Colleen and Haley, and especially Jordeyn. Along with Kevin, their regular visits brought him great joy and companionship.

Basil was well known throughout the community for his love of music and his talent as a singer in the country band Country Blue, performing at local dance halls and events. He had a natural gift for making friends wherever he went, most recently among the tenants at Fellowship Heights. Basil also had a deep appreciation for art and spent many hours painting. Known for his quick wit and warm sense of humor, he was always ready with the latest “Dad joke” to bring a smile to anyone nearby.

Basil’s kindness, creativity, and love for people will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.
