It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Terry “Terboy” Shilling on October 6, 2026 at the age of 67 at RVH in Barrie. He was predeceased by his partner Kimberly Buckley, mere days before he passed. Terry will be lovingly remembered by his children Jordan Bigcanoe (Angela), Tim Shilling (Nancy), and Samantha Farrow (Bobby); grandchildren Koltan, Alora, Lincoln, Aubree, Easton, Everlee, Weston, Miigwans and Bella; his siblings the late Rodney Noganosh (Vicki), Daniel Shilling (the late Jacqueline), the late Tony Shilling (Patti), the late Debbie Shilling (the late Ronnie), and the late Kevin Shilling; his nephews and nieces; his dear friend Ted Snache; and many others in the community who enjoyed visiting, reminiscing, and golfing in the back yard.
As a child, Terry grew up knowing the value of hard work. He and his brothers had to go into the bush from a young age to harvest wood, and would saw, split and pile it themselves until the job was complete. He carried this work ethic with him into his adult life, and worked for many years at Bear Claw construction. He built and renovated houses and commercial buildings, and was known to have such a keen eye that his work was viewed as perfection. He was a go-getter in the things he loved, and knowing he put in a hard days work was a sense of pride for him; he would often start his work days with a cup of coffee and a packed lunch, and he didn’t hesitate to head out the door perfectly on time for his job. For Terry, this sense of hard work also trickled into his love of sports. He is a cherished Rama baseball player and was truly magnetic on the field. He was such an intense and competitive player that spectators were dazzled and many have stories of the antics that ensued after the games. And as much as he enjoyed playing, he also loved watching and spent many hours supporting younger baseball players such Jeff Shilling and Vinnie Shilling; and many baseball games were watched in his home. Terry was also the first winner of the Frank Piper Bain award in 1970. This award is given to one athlete that is the most elite and skilled player and best represents what Bain was to his team- a reliable player with a great attitude who gave all he could in every game.
Family and friends will be received at the Rama Community Hall, 5950 Rama Road, Rama, on Saturday, October 10 from 11 AM until time of service at 1 PM. Burial will take place at the Rama Cemetery where he will be laid to rest amongst his family.
Memorial donations can be made in Terry’s name to any First Nations sports team or youth program.
The family wishes to surround Daniel Shilling with the utmost love, warmth and compassion at this time as he says 'baa maa pii' to his last sibling. Dan, your family and community are here always.
