Norma Alexandra Lee (nee Newell)
Born May 2, 1930, in the county of Sutherland, West England. Passed away at Leacock Care Centre on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Travelling with her mother Winifred and father Alexander Newell, Norma arrived in Canada on the S.S. Duchess of York at the age of two months. Landing at the Port of Quebec on August 1, 1930, she resided at Robina Avenue in Toronto and was granted Canadian citizenship. The Newell family lived in Toronto, where Norma became a Bell Canada Operator. Moving to Orillia, she continued her career with Bell Canada until her retirement in 1991. Norma attended St. David’s Lutheran Church until her illness.
Norma was predeceased by Alan Lee, her beloved husband; James Lee, beloved son; Jean Phillips, her beloved sister and William Phillips, brother-in-law. Survived & cherished by granddaughters Avery and Darah Lee; nieces Lorrie Forsythe, Lynn Phillips, and Kathy Jacobs, and their families. Norma had many valued friends. Thank you for bringing your friendships into her life.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street North, Orillia. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and an interment be held at the historic burial site St. Luke’s Anglican Cemetery, on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 2:00 PM; located at 1992 South Sparrow Lake Road, in the small community of Hamlet.
