Matthews, Mary Evelyn (née Barber)

Passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, in her 99th year.

Evelyn was the beloved sister of Betty (Walter) Jeffries (Betty predeceased), Kathleen (Neil) Brown (both predeceased), Marjorie (Gord predeceased) Davie, Harry (Patricia) Barber, and Dave (Carinda) Barber (Dave predeceased). She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, as well as their families.

In her early years, Evelyn enjoyed life on the farm in Gormley, caring for her dairy cows. Later, she made her home in Orillia, where she spent nearly four decades enjoying the beauty of the lake and the simple pleasures of tending to her gardens and watching the song birds and the ducks that pecked at her door.

Evelyn will be remembered for her contagious laugh and her remarkable stories.

May she rest in peace and her memory be a blessing.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
