Marg Hussey
October 29, 1945 – February 18, 2026
Marg Hussey passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, with her devoted husband and children at her bedside. She was 80 years old.
Born on October 29, 1945, in Toronto, Marg grew up there alongside her brother, John Chappell (deceased), and attended school in Runnymede, forming friendships that would last a lifetime. She remained close with many friends from those days, a testament to her loyalty and the depth of her relationships. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Gloria. In 1971, she and the love of her life, Tom—her husband of 58 years—moved to Orillia to build a life and raise their family. Together, they created a home defined by warmth, generosity, and unwavering support.
Marg’s life was marked by her deep care for others. She was at her happiest looking after her children—Amy (Fraser), Rob, and Jeff (Myra)—and later her eight grandchildren: Thomas, Savanah, Avery, Sydney, Molly, Ivy, Iris, and Olivia; and her two great-grandchildren, Izaiah and Amias, who were the pride and joy of her life. She was the embodiment of a devoted mother and grandmother: a constant presence at soccer pitches, hockey rinks, baseball diamonds, and countless practices and games. Few can claim to have logged as many miles in service of their children’s and grandchildren’s passions. Her support was steadfast, practical, and unconditional.
When her children were older and less of a handful, Marg returned to school and went on to work as a nurse at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. Caring for others in a professional capacity reflected the same compassion and dedication that defined her life at home.
Beyond her family and career, Marg was a dedicated volunteer, always ready to lend a hand wherever it was needed. Giving her time and energy to others was not something she did occasionally—it was simply who she was.
Her desire to continue helping others was profoundly challenged when a rare cervical spinal tumour resulted in lower-body paralysis. After losing her mobility and much of her ability to care for others in the ways she once had, Marg still found ways to enjoy the small things in life. She demonstrated remarkable toughness and resilience, adapting with determination and grace. She became a master of puzzles and crosswords. Marg had an incredibly sharp mind and seemed to know half the town—always remembering names, stories, and connections. Even as circumstances changed, her intellect, warmth, and humour remained firmly intact.
She continued to cherish time with her tremendously close circle of friends in Orillia and Toronto, drawing strength from lifelong relationships and shared memories.
Marg will be remembered as a caring, thoughtful, and generous woman whose greatest happiness came from looking after the people she loved. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the friendships she treasured, and the countless quiet acts of kindness that defined her 80 years. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
A time of Visitation will take place at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St., N., Orillia, on Monday, February 23rd from 6 - 8 pm. A Celebration of Life will take place at Hawk Ridge Golf & Country Club, 1151 Hurlwood Lane, Severn on Tuesday, February 24th, 2026 from 1 - 4 pm, with words of Remembrance at 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Marg’s memory.
