Laurie Lyn Edwards
May 24th 1959 – August 29th 2026
With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Laurie Lyn Edwards after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by her family, at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto on Saturday August 29th in her 67th year. Laurie, formerly of Etobicoke, called Oro-Medonte home with her beloved husband George Faryna. Loving mother of Tim (Becky) and Karyn (Dan). Grandmother to Josh, Austin and Sebastian. Dear sister to Debbie (predeceased 1971) and Janet (John). Dear daughter of the late Sonia and Earl Solobay.
Laurie leaves us wondering about tomorrow. It is difficult to imagine family gatherings, holidays, meals around the table, or the future itself without her in it. We will miss her big laugh, her enthusiasm, her generosity, her optimism, and the way she made caring for the people she loved look effortless. She had a gift for making people feel known, listened to, and connected. She was the heart of our family life, and the void she leaves is immeasurable.
Laurie always understood the value of time. She chose to retire early because she knew that life wasn’t meant to be put on hold. Together with George, she turned a shared vision into a reality—building their dream home tucked quietly in the trees of Horseshoe Valley. It became their paradise, surrounded by maple trees and quiet mornings. That home was the culmination of a life well-lived and carefully crafted.
Those who knew Laurie well knew that she loved being one-on-one. At family gatherings, she would sometimes retreat to her library for a little while, and the family would take turns joining her for one-on-one time. Those quiet conversations were often the most meaningful moments.
“Mothers hold their children’s hands for a short while, but their hearts forever”
Please join us to celebrate Laurie’s life. A memorial service will be held at Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N, Orillia on Saturday September 12th 2026 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Laurie spent her life giving so generously to the people she loved, and we hope that continuing the spirit of her generosity will be a beautiful way to honour her life. Please consider making a donation in Laurie’s memory to St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation.
