Kim Douglas Pressnail

September 15, 1954 – September 26, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kim Douglas Pressnail at the age of 72 at his home in Oro Medonte on Saturday September 26, 2026. Kim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose generosity and humour brightened the lives of all those who knew him. A former Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto’s St George campus, he inspired generations of students with his passion for building science. Outside the classroom, he was a volunteer ski patroller for over twenty years and a skilled woodworker, building beautiful canoes that reflected both his artistry and his deep love for the outdoors.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Heather, his children, Katherine (Chris) and Brian (Casey), and his cherished granddaughter Brooke. Kim is survived by his brother Bryn (Leslie), and was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Constance Pressnail.

A celebration of Kim’s life will be held at the event space at Horseshoe Valley Ski Resort on Sunday October 25, 2026, from 2:00PM until 5:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kim’s memory may be made to the Pressnail family, who will hold all contributions in trust toward the establishment of a future scholarship or fellowship in his name, honouring his extraordinary commitment to supporting students in Building Science at the University of Toronto.

Kim’s sudden departure leaves a space that can never be filled, but his laughter, craftsmanship, and dedication to learning will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Onward and upward.
