Celebration of Life
Mundell Funeral Home
Starts at 1:00 pm (Eastern time)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Grant Purssell. He died peacefully at the age of 73, surrounded by family, after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.
Grant leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia, of 44 years; his daughters, Leandra and Caitlin; his son-in-law, Tyler; and his cherished grandchildren, Sebastian and Delilah, who knew him lovingly as Grandpa G. He is survived by his brother, Kevin (Pam), and his nephews, Jason (Phan) and Ryan (Danielle), all of Midland. Grant will also be missed by Adrian (Heather) and brother-in-laws Eric( Mary Jane), Wayne and their families. Grant always had a special place in his heart for Auntie Joan of Naples, Florida, and cherished the many family vacations shared with her over the years. Grant was the son of the late Douglas and Jessie Purssell, and brother to the late Wayne Purssell.
Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Grant later moved to Ontario, where he met the love of his life, built a long and meaningful career at CP Rail, and raised his family in their home in Aurora, Ontario. After retiring, Grant embraced a rich and active life, spending winters in Florida and summers on Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching.
Grant’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted and hardworking husband, a loving father, and, most recently, a proud grandfather. Grant’s greatest gift was his ability to enjoy life to its fullest and bring joy to everyone around him. He had a deep appreciation for life’s simple, beautiful moments; a sunset, warm sunshine, a good bike ride, or a meal shared with those he loved most. Grant brought warmth, comfort, and a sense of humour to everyone who knew him, even during his most difficult days.
The family would also like to thank Grant’s medical team; they never gave up and never stopped fighting. Thank you to Dr. Sara Rask and her team at Royal Victoria Hospital, Dr. David Collins and his team for always being there for him, and the wonderful care at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St., N., Orillia, on Friday, January 30th, 2026 at 1 pm. Refreshments to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Grant’s memory to Pancreatic Cancer Canada.
