Eric Russell Day
October 9, 1932 - October 4, 2026
Eric Russell Day passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2026, just five days shy of his 94th birthday.
Born in Orillia, Ontario, on October 9, 1932, to Vera May (Parker) and Albert Russell Day, Eric held the distinction of being the first baby in the Day family to be born in a hospital. He was raised on the northeast shore of Lake Dalrymple, on the farm that had been home to generations of the Day family.
Eric took tremendous pride in his years as a farmer and in carrying on the traditions of the generations who came before him.
Eric and Lorna reconnected later in life and after Eric finally got up the nerve to tell her how he felt they were married in 1981. When asked recently to name the happiest and proudest moment of his life, Eric’s answer was simple: getting married to Lorna.
Eric leaves behind a lifetime of memories rooted in family, faith, hard work and the land he worked . Eric will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Lorna; his brother-in-law, Elgin Thompson; and his nieces, nephews their families, cousins and many, neighbours. Eric was predeceased by his sisters Doris (Day) Beavers, brother-in-law Gene Beavers and sister Carol (Day) Thompson
Visitation will be held at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia on Thursday October 8, 2026 from 12pm until time of Funeral Service at 1 pm. Reception to follow. Private family burial at Lake Dalrymple Cemetery.
