Ellen was born May 28th 1930 to John and Ethel Booth of Fraserburg. Predeceased by her first husband Ernest Gilbert and second husband Charles Naughton.

Survived by her siblings Ralph Booth (Shirley), Carol (Bill Quemby) predeceased by her brother Jim and wife Shirley, sisters Reena and baby sister Pauline.

Mother of Allan (JoAnne) of St. Catharines, Garry (Debbie) of Orillia, Linda (predeceased) (David Montague)and Evan (Sharon) of Oro Medonte.

Ellen was stepmother to Gerrard Naughton, Chris Naughton (Cheryl), JoAnne Wares (David) and Lisa (Al McCauley)

Ellen loved her grandchildren: Adam, Nathan and Matthew Montague (Sherry), Michael Gilbert (Stephanie Yeo), Marleigh Gilbert (Curt Dunlop), Matt Oelschlaeger, Ashley Naughton (Nick Keyes), Leo Corston (Angela), Darren Corston and Allan Naughton, Dan Schop, David Schop (Kelsey), Julie Schop (Joscelyn), Alycia (Rod), Josh (Lia), Ryan Potestio (Sara) and Leanne Potestio (Brian).

Great grandmother of 27 beautiful children.

As a farmer's wife she maintained her household, worked on the farm with 4 active children while working at the Sundial Restaurant serving famous people like Bobby Orr, George Armstrong & Mike Walton on their way to their cottage in Muskoka.

Ellen was the consummate volunteer helping at the ODAS Park for many years working the Fall Fair, making pies for fundraising along with other volunteers and doing any job that was required of her without complaint.

Ellen also helped out the early Couchiching Riders (now North River Riders) as a member of the Orillia Fair Grounds.

Ellen volunteered at Soldier's Memorial in Day Surgery for 40 years. She was always inquisitive about who you were,where are you from and before long she knew your whole family history and probably your family! Ellen also served as a returning officer in the Warminster community during elections.

Ellen was known for her walking and when she turned 80 years old she said "I don't think I should drive any more" and voluntarily gave up her drivers license. Ellen sold her home in Warminster a few years later and moved into an apartment in Orillia. She soon became known as the lady who walked all over Orillia and moving in from the country, she quickly figured out the buses of Orillia transit. Ellen was an extremely positive person and wouldn't let a little bus schedule throw her off. Again, meeting and engaging with new people on the bus that she would probably never meet again, but that didn't matter to Ellen.

Covid was hard on Ellen; her social life was her volunteering where she thrived on the people she met and found it hard to sit at home doing nothing.

Always a positive person, 2 years ago she announced, I am ready to move into a home!! (Doesn't everyone wish it was that easy). In November of 2024 Ellen moved voluntarily into Champlain Manor. While there was an adjustment period she still walked everywhere and soon became accustomed to here new living arrangements and said it was a wonderful place and didn't know why people complained about the food!! Always positive!! The staff at Champlain Manor soon became accustomed to the written notes she would leave them (a life long habit!)

The family would like to thank Champlain Manor and ALL their staff and administrators for the wonderful care and friendship that they gave Ellen. We would also like to thank the volunteers at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital who took time to visit her for her very short stay 2 weeks ago in the hospital and giggled at her saying I am ready to go to my next home.

Ellen you are now in your eternal home!

Cremation has taken place and visitation will be at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia on Thursday August 6 from 12:30 PM until time of service in the chapel at 2 PM. Reception to follow at Mundell's.

Memorial donations can be made in Ellen's name to Soldiers' Memorial Hospital where she volunteered for so many years or a charity of your choice.
