Carpino; Danilo "Dan"
With saddened hearts, we announce the passing of Danilo Carpino at Spencer House, Monday, April 27, 2026, in his 68th year. Much beloved husband of June (nee Horne) for 47 years. Devoted and loving father to Mark (Stephanie) Carpino and Michael Carpino (partner Cassandra Delorme). Cherished Nonno to Jennavecia Carpino and Sonya Delorme. Born to parents, Gaetano and Lorita Carpino (both predeceased) on June 23, 1958, Predazzo, Italy. Dan leaves behind his two sisters Nietta (Sam predeceased) Crispino of Chicago and Anna (Natalino predeceased) Zanvettor of Italy, brothers Frank (Ester), John (Mathilda), Silvano (Rose) of Orillia, Dario (Mary), Claudio (Toni) of Toronto and Jordano (Sherry) of Orillia. Dan will be missed by sister-in-law Jean (Terry predeceased) Cain and brothers-in-law Dan Horne, Bruce (Tracey) Horne and Robert Horne. Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Dan came to Canada along with his parents and six brothers in August 1966, making Orillia their home. Dan began his cooking career by graduating from George Brown College in Toronto with his basic and advanced chef training certificate in 1976. Early employment included Cara Flight Kitchens at the airport, Holcomb's Dining Room, Sundial Motor Inn, Huronia Regional Centre and Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. Gourmet cooking classes were taught through the City of Orillia Parks and Recreation program. Wanting to teach others his love for cooking, Dan applied for the position of Teacher of Commercial Food Services and Restaurant Services at Penetanguishene Secondary School. Dan was hired in 1990 on the condition that he would attend Queen's University in Kingston for two summers where he obtained his diploma in Technical Education, on October 31, 1992. In 1993, Dan accepted the position of Hospitality Teacher at Twin Lakes Secondary School, Orillia, becoming a much respected and beloved teacher to his students. Dan's motto "Talk to the kids so they will listen and listen so the kids will talk". The entire cafeteria was operated by Dan and his students up to 2015 upon Dan semi-retiring and supply teaching until 2020. Dan prepared many a banquet dinner for the Orillia Legion, ODAS Park and his own catering business. Close to his heart was the Muskoka and District Chefs' Association being Treasurer for a number of years. In recognition of Dan's commitment to the profession of cooking and dedication to the Canadian Culinary Federation, Dan was bestowed a Lifetime Achievement Award May 1017. The Prestigious Honour Society of the Canadian Culinary Federation in recognition of foresight, dedication and contributions to the Federation and lifetime passion and service to the culinary profession was awarded to Dan at Niagara College May 28, 2019. Dan also had a passion for motorcycles and taught his sons Mark and Michael how to "live to ride and ride to live". Dan enjoyed driving large RV's, Orillia Transit Buses and Hammond Tour and Travel Buses. A friendly game of pool was always welcome.
Family and Friends are invited to gather for a time of Visitation at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St., N., Orillia on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm. Funeral Service will take place at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 265 Coldwater Rd., W., Orillia, on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 11 am. Interment; St. Andrew's-St.James' Cemetery, Orillia. If desired, memorial donations to the Charity of Ones' Choice would be appreciated.
